The Honorable Datuk Dato' Seri Ong Ka Chuan,

Ministers, Excellencies,

Tan Sri-Tan Sri, Dato'-Dato', Datin-Datin, Tuan-Tuan dan puan-puan,

Distinguished guests, dear friends, ladies and gentlemen,

Good evening! Selamat petang ! And selamat datang!

Today, we are gathering here in Shangri-la to celebrate the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, I would like to extend my warmest welcome and sincere thanks to all the distinguished guests present here.

68 years ago, the birth of the People's Republic of China ushered in a new era of China's history. During the past 68 years, huge changes have taken place in China. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people created one miracle after another in the course of reform, opening up and modernization.

Especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the "Two Centenary Goals" and a grand blueprint for realizing the Chinese dream of great national rejuvenation has been formulated and Four-pronged Comprehensive Strategy has been carried out, namely to build a moderately prosperous society, to deepen reform, to advance the law-based governance of China and to strengthen Party self-discipline comprehensively. We adhere to a path of innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development, and have successfully explored an extraordinary way of development.

In the past five years, China has withstood the downward pressure from the global economy, achieving a continuous and stable economic growth. As the world's second largest economy, China's yearly contribution to world's economic growth reaches over 30% in average. We have been dedicating our efforts to building a new type of international relations that feature win-win cooperation, promoting the Belt and Road Initiative and establishing the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). We have been active in sharing China's ideas and propositions on global governance and the world economy, which shows to the world a pioneering, innovative and responsible China.

Next month, the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China will be held in Beijing which will be crucial for China's future development and external relations and will lead the Chinese people to embark on a new journey from a new historical starting point.

One month ago, Malaysia celebrated the 60th anniversary of its independence. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister Dato' Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak and the Malaysian Government, Malaysia has maintained stable and harmonious society and steady economic development. We all feel happy for Malaysia and Malaysian people, and wish Malaysia a better and faster development in the future.

Ladies and gentlemen,

This is the fourth and last National Day reception I've hosted in Kuala Lumpur since I came to Malaysia as the Chinese Ambassador. A few days later, it would be the 4th anniversary of President Xi Jinping's state visit to Malaysia and the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Malaysia.

During the past four years, I have experienced the all-round and leap-forward development of our relations and witnessed the best period of bilateral relations in the history. The political mutual trust between our two countries has been enhanced by frequent exchange of high level visits. The economic bonds have been constantly strengthened by carrying out series of flagship projects such as Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park, Malacca Gateway and Maritime Industrial Park as well as the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), etc. The hearts of our two peoples have also been brought even closer while jointly addressing the difficulties and challenges such as the incident of MH370 and the disastrous floods in Malaysia in early 2015.

We have every reason to believe, with the direct care and guidance of the leaders of our two countries, and with the impetus provided by the "The Belt and Road" initiative and international cooperation on production capacity, the China-Malaysia relationship will enjoy an even more splendid future and will bring more benefits to our two peoples.

Distinguished guests,

Tonight, with the large size of presence here, I'm deeply touched by your great affection and earnest anticipation towards China and China-Malaysia relationship. As an old Chinese saying goes, "Victory is ensured when people pool their strength; success is secured when people put their heads together." When everybody adds fuel, the flames rise high. The Chinese Embassy wishes to work with all of our friends to make joint efforts, overcoming innumerable difficulties and achieving continuous progress, to add more and more firewood for the friendship and cooperation between China and Malaysia. We are ready to work with you to forge the next Four Decades of Diamond Era of China-Malaysia relationship, featuring mutual benefit, win-win cooperation, prosperity and development.

Now, May I invite you to join me in a toast for the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, for a prosperous Malaysia and the well-being of its people, and for the further development of China-Malaysia relationship. Cheers!

Thank you very much and enjoy the night! Terima Kasih!
