On November 15, 2010, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Indian Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna held the 10th Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of China, Russia and India in central China's Wuhan city. The three foreign ministers exchanged in-depth views on major international and regional issues of common concern and reached important consensus on deepening trilateral cooperation.

As important emerging countries, China, Russia and India had the same or similar positions on many international and regional issues, and had broad prospects for cooperation, said Yang. Yang proposed that in the current situation, the three parties map out the direction for future development on the basis of cooperative results achieved in the past. He said the three countries should expand coordination, share opportunities for development and jointly deal with challenges, with the goal of promoting democratization of international relations and multi-polarization. He called on the three nations to support the United Nations in playing a central role in international affairs.

Yang said since the mechanism of the Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of China, Russia and India was established nine years ago, the three countries have continuously enhanced their policy coordination and made substantial progress in pragmatic cooperation in the areas of disaster relief and prevention, agriculture, medicine and public health, policy discussion, industry and commerce. The foundation of trilateral cooperation had been consolidated and the overall level of trilateral cooperation enhanced, he added.

The foreign ministers agreed that as the international situation is undergoing complicated and profound changes, the three sides should enhance communication and cooperation, and play a positive role in BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) and Asia-Pacific economic and security cooperative mechanisms, so as to push the international order to develop in the direction of equality and democracy.

The three parties all regarded the Group of 20 (G20) mechanism as a major forum for the international economic and financial cooperation. They called on all G20 members to seriously implement outcome reached at previous G20 summits, and further strengthen coordination on macro-economic policy, to promote strong, sustainable and balanced growth of the world economy. They called for reform of the international financial system and for more emphasis on development, and voiced opposition to protectionism.

The foreign ministers agreed to push forward trilateral practical cooperation and decided the next trilateral foreign ministers' meeting would be held in Russia in 2011.

After the meeting, the three sides issued the Joint Communique of the Tenth Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the People's Republic of China, the Russian Federation and the Republic of India and jointly met the press.
