On November 28, 2010, Wu Dawei, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on the Korean Peninsular Affairs, held a press conference, announcing that China suggests holding an emergency consultation among heads of delegation to the Six-Party Talks.

Wu said according to the Six-Party Talks Joint Statement reached on September 19, 2005, the Chinese side, after careful study, suggests holding an emergency consultation among the heads of delegation to the Six-Party Talks in Beijing in early December to exchange opinions on the major issues of common concern in order to properly handle the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

A series of complicated factors occurred on the Korean Peninsula recently, about which the international community, especially the six parties to the talks are deeply concerned. The Chinese side believes it is necessary for the heads of delegation to the Six-Party Talks who shoulder the heavy responsibility of implementing the September 19 Joint Statement to exchange views on those major issues and make due contributions to maintaining peace and stability on the Peninsula and easing tensions in Northeast Asia.

He pointed out the Six-Party Talks has played an important role in strengthening communication among all the parties, promoting the denuclearization on the Peninsula and maintaining peace and stability on the Peninsula and in Northeast Asia. It is China's consistent position to resume the Six-Party Talks early and China has made unremitting efforts to that end. The consultation does not mean restarting the Six-Party Talks, but we hope it can help create conditions for resuming the Talks.
